Blood Flow Restriction Training
Also known as occlusion training, BFR training is essentially a strategy that involves the use of inflating cuffs or wraps to a specific pressure placed around the upper or lower limbs for rehabilitation or performance training. The aim of this is to safely restrict venous blood flow from a working muscle while allowing arterial blood flow. The client is then asked to perform resistance exercises at a low intensity of 20-30% of a 1 repetition max (1RM), with high repetitions per set (15-30) and short rest intervals between sets (30 seconds). This technique will allow us to have faster muscle gains with lower resistant loads for our rehab and performance clients.
